Our Values

as a community...

We promise to always create space for each woman to feel a sense of belonging. To lean in when people are hurting. To hug a bit longer when it is needed. To listen without judgment. And we promise to support and show enthusiasm for the success of other women as much as we do our own.

as a book club...

We promise to read books that challenge our current mindsets and limiting beliefs. To continuously strive to empathize with the feelings of others. To celebrate our differences. And to give back to those in need.

Our goal is always to equip each other with the self-confidence and space we need to feel empowered, so we can show up as the best versions of ourselves in the world.

The first was that I realized how many of my friendships were, well, unfulfilling. Instead of building each other up, we more or less “bonded” over tearing others down. Fueled by gossip, alcohol, and drama, these environments were becoming increasingly toxic and unsustainable for me.

Secondly, in September 2018, I learned that my brother had contemplated suicide. I immediately flew to Montana to be with him, and that trip served as a sort of mental health awakening for me.
On the plane ride back home, I reached out to some pretty significant people in my life for advice. Every single one of them said something along the lines of "I know someone that has a mental illness" or "I struggle with depression myself."

It shocked me that so many of my friends and family were dealing with these types of issues. For the first time, I began to understand the depth of mental illness, anxiety, loneliness, and depression that so many people I knew and loved were dealing with.

How A Single Life Changing Experience Led To Personal Transformation And One Badass Girl Gang

Hi, I’m Madison, and Between the Covers came together as a couple of other things in my life started to unravel...

These were REAL problems affecting REAL people.
And I wanted to do more to help.

I no longer wanted superficial and toxic friendships. I realized I craved a loving space where I could feel unconditionally supported through life. I was certain other women did, too.

When a tiny voice inside prompted me with “you should start a book club,” I’d like to tell you, I went for it right away. But actually I laughed and rolled my eyes. But still… the idea persisted.

It was a small dream, but it urged me on. Finally, I decided to just go for it. And I’m so glad I did.

I knew right away that I didn’t want it to be an average book club

I envisioned a different type of book club‒ a unique space where the members could be wrapped and held in love, vulnerability, and self-betterment.

Because it turned out I had been right: I wasn’t the only woman craving a more honest, loving, authentic, and supportive community.

Deep down, I wanted to create a space where each woman felt welcomed to be her truest self, because life is so hard and we all need a community to call home.

So I began by posting about this “book club” on my personal Instagram. Before long, we had our first 6 members. We had no idea of how far this journey would take us.

Today, Between The Covers has grown to 30+ local chapters meeting in locations across the country and 1000+ women actively reading, participating in trips, and sharing their lives with one another.

There are no words to describe the impact BTC women have had on my heart and my life. It has been a whirlwind of self-growth and I am honored to be able to facilitate our mission of preparing women to go out in the world and become a light for others.

There’s a sisterhood of love‒ waiting for you just outside the bounds of your comfort zone. Let love lead the way.
